Sheffield Wednesday ready to sign 18 y/o gem who could replace Charles

Following rumours that Premier League sides are interested in signing Pierce Charles this summer, Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly ready to sign a young shot-stopper in a bargain deal.

Pierce Charles attracting Premier League interest

At just 19 years old, Charles has been a true bright spark for Sheffield Wednesday even as issues away from the pitch attempt to rain down on what has otherwise been a solid season for Danny Rohl’s side. Even as owner Dejphon Chansiri has continued to struggle financially – resulting in a two-point deduction for the Owls – Rohl has kept his side away from the threat of Championship relegation two seasons on the trot.

As the summer approaches, however, even the German may not stay put in Sheffield, with reported interest from the likes of Leicester City and Southampton reportedly emerging. Losing Rohl, more so than any player, would arguably be Wednesday’s greatest loss.

Meanwhile, their No.1 could also be joining Rohl on the list of departures. According to Graeme Bailey for EFL Analysis, Sheffield Wednesday are in danger of losing young goalkeeper Charles this summer amid interest from Fulham, Brentford and Everton.

Those at Hillsborough need no reminding of Charles’ quality, especially after the goalkeeper’s importance was recently recognised by the Sheffield Star when they awarded him with their Player of the Season award.

With that said, losing such a player and one whose best years are yet come would be an undoubted blow for all involved at Sheffield Wednesday, who could find themselves picked apart this summer.

Should Charles answer the Premier League call, the Owls will need to make finding a replacement one of their top priorities. And that could see a former Premier League goalkeeper arrive at a bargain price.

Sheffield Wednesday ready to sign Zeitzen

According to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday are now ready to sign Michael Zeitzen from Stoke City this summer, with the 18-year-old currently on trial at the club ahead of a potential decision. With his contract coming to an end at the Potters at the end of the current campaign too, the Owls would be landing a bargain deal to possibly replace Charles.

Zeitzen has primarily played U18 football this season, making 11 appearances in the U18 Premier League and two in the FA Youth Cup whilst keeping two clean sheets in a frustrating campaign. Now, as his time at Stoke City comes to an end, he desperately needs his next move to go right.

It wasn’t so long ago that the teenager was an Arsenal prospect before struggling to gain first team opportunities at Stoke. But at just 18 years old, Zeitzen’s story is far from finished and may yet be Sheffield Wednesday who help him realise the potential he was once showing in North London.

If Charles leaves, then welcoming a young goalkeeper at a bargain price would certainly make sense for the Owls, who could be in for a busy summer on all fronts.

Their next Eden Hazard: Chelsea pushing hard to sign "magic" £87m star

When all’s said and done, those of a Chelsea persuasion may well look back at the 2024/25 campaign as one of progress and a return to that title-winning feeling.

The Blues are nailed-on favourites to lift the Conference League trophy next month, having also put themselves in the mix for a return to the Champions League after two years away, fifth in the Premier League but with Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa snapping at their heels.

It’s all to play for across these closing weeks, and Enzo Maresca will certainly hope that his team’s talisman, Cole Palmer, can rediscover his form in front of goal after going 17 matches without finding the back of the net.

Chelsea'sColePalmerreacts

Chelsea are understood to be gearing up for a big summer, one which could elevate Stamford Bridge back to the forefront of English and European football.

While a striker, centre-back and maybe a goalkeeper too are all priority positions for BlueCo, signing the right silky, right-footed winger could go a long way toward returning to the top.

A player, perhaps, in a similar vein to Eden Hazard.

Why Chelsea need their next Hazard

Hazard is one of the greatest wingers in Chelsea’s history, in the Premier League’s history. The stylish Belgian arrived off the back of a Ligue 1 title triumph with Lille in 2012, signing in a deal worth £32m, aged just 21.

His fleet-footed bursts up and down the left channel, the way the ball stuck to him as if glued; Hazard was a phenomenon, scoring 110 goals and supplying 78 assists across 352 appearances.

Money well spent, not least because he finally departed after winning the Europa League in 2018, joining Real Madrid in a staggering £130m transfer.

It’s saddening to see that he fell by the wayside in Spain, ended up retiring at the age of 32 after posting just seven goals across 76 Los Blancos features.

Of course, Hazard isn’t just fondly remembered for his tricks and flicks; the left-sided forward, who former Manchester United star Ander Herrera once said was “the best player I have played against,” led Chelsea to six major honours across his seven seasons.

Hazard has earned his place alongside the club’s legends, winning two Premier League trophies and two Europa League titles to match, the FA Cup and the League Cup.

Chelsea could certainly make use of a new winger on his level, and they may well find one this summer, with Todd Boehly’s transfer committee lining up a mammoth bid for one of the most exciting up-and-comers in the game.

Chelsea leading race for top talent

According to Caught Offside, Chelsea are ramping up their efforts to sign Juventus talent Kenan Yildiz, who has been all the rage in Turin this season.

In fact, it’s been revealed that the west Londoners are leading the race right now, pushing the hardest to get the deal done despite registered interest from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.

Juventus'KenanYildiz

Juventus don’t want to let their prized prospect go and have retorted to sniffing suitors with demands of a €100m (£87m) payment, should Yildiz, 19, be allowed to leave.

However, the fifth-placed Old Lady are in the thick of a fight for a place in next year’s Champions League, and should they fail, the Blues will be well placed to swoop.

What Kenan Yildiz would bring to Chelsea

Yildiz hasn’t been performing at the highest level for long, but he’s got the minerals to become a bona fide superstar and could prove to be Chelsea’s poster boy over the coming years.

He could emulate Hazard as a star man in the Premier League, bringing his own brand of intensity and technical skill.

As per FBref, Yildiz ranks among the top 7% of attacking midfielders and wingers performing in Serie A this season for shot-creating actions, the top 15% for progressive passes and progressive carries, the top 8% for successful take-ons and the top 9% for tackles per 90.

His displays drew comparisons to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia by the data-driven site, before the Georgian artist transferred to Paris Saint-Germain in January.

Clearly profiled in a similar mould to Hazard, Chelsea fans would surely get excited if the owners managed to orchestrate a deal.

His alliance of properties create something complete and singular in its strength. Analyst Ben Mattinson has lauded the Turkey international for his “magic” talent, but more gushingly, the Turkish native’s former coach, Sokyan Baskar, has made the bold claim that his protégé is “more talented than Cristiano Ronaldo.”

He’s also shown himself to be positionally dynamic, another string to the bow and one which Maresca will delight in adding to his fold.

There’s no doubt that Yildiz needs to work on his prolificness, but that’s hardly a concern at this maiden stage, not when he’s firing across every other cylinder.

Juventus have actually struggled for purchase in attacking phases this term, ranking seventh in Serie A for xG (expected goals). Dusan Vlahovic is their top scorer in the division, with just nine goals to his name.

Still, Yildiz has made his mark, scoring six goals but missing only four big chances, as per Sofascore, which denoted a natural composure and clinical edge. Moreover, he’s averaging 1.5 key passes per game while proving relentless in the duel.

Hazard joined Chelsea at a young age on a rather sizeable fee, something that could not be replicated with the signing of Yildiz, a “perfectly two-footed” winger, as said by talent scout Jacek Kulig, whose skilful movements and prodigious technical level suggests that he could be moulded into Maresca’s very own version of Hazard.

Better than Sesko: Chelsea leading the race to sign "phenomenal" CF

Chelsea appear to have moved ahead in the race to sign a player who Enzo Maresca loves.

TN's young star Siddarth eager to carry forward legacy of uncle Sharath

“My uncle has done so much; I have to do at least half of it or else it might be a disgrace,” says the 18-year-old who has had a rapid rise in recent months

Deivarayan Muthu21-Jan-2025Tamil Nadu teenager C Andre Siddarth has been riding the wave over the last year or so. Since making his TNPL debut in July 2024, he has made the step-up to the Ranji Trophy, scoring four fifties in his first six innings, and to the India Under-19s team besides earning an IPL deal with Chennai Super Kings at the auction last December.Siddarth, 18, rang in the new year by winning the Under-19 Cooch Behar title with Tamil Nadu in Ahmedabad. Before 2024-25, the last time Tamil Nadu had won that Under-19 title was way back in 1991-92, when his uncle Sridharan Sharath, the current national selector, was part of the side. The uncle and the nephew recently spoke about the uncanny coincidence once Siddarth returned to Chennai.Given Sharath’s remarkable body of work in domestic cricket – he piled up 8700 first-class runs at an average of over 50 – the expectations on Siddarth are high and even he feels the weight of it.Related

“Yes, there is pressure, but it’s not about the runs,” Siddarth tells ESPNcricinfo before Tamil Nadu’s clash against Chandigarh in Salem. “He [Sharath] is one of the greatest batsmen in Tamil Nadu history – so I have to live up to those expectations. My uncle has done so much; I have to do at least half of it or else it might be a disgrace for myself and my uncle. So, that’s the pressure I have till date.”On the field, however, Siddarth has absorbed all of that pressure, starting his Ranji career with scores of 38, 66*, 55*, 41, 94, and 78, helping Tamil Nadu top the Elite Group D table in the first phase of the Ranji Trophy. Even before he had made his Ranji debut, a number of Tamil Nadu players, including R Ashwin, had earmarked him as a future star. The team management trusts him to bat at the top as well as in the middle order.”To be honest, I just wanted to enjoy myself while batting,” Siddarth says. “Even if I get dropped for the next game or anything I don’t mind. Because for me, it’s about going out there, expressing myself and putting the team first.”The step-up [from Under-19s] to Ranji Trophy for me was mainly a mental switch and not a technical switch. Tanveer Jabbar (former TN batter) and my dad told me not to think too much and just watch the ball and play. So, that helped me a lot while batting.”There are shades of M Vijay in Siddarth’s batting, especially when he drives on the up and flicks. Siddarth hasn’t seen his uncle bat in his prime – Sharath was in the final stages of his career when Siddarth was born in 2006 – but he has followed Vijay more closely.”Some people also tell me that I remind them of Vijay,” Siddarth says. “I just like the way Vijay approaches his innings and just the way he plays. His batting is very eye-catching – you can just watch him bat the whole day. He’s one of the most beautiful batsmen I’ve ever seen.”Siddarth’s father Chandrasekar, a doctor, has also had a big influence on his career. He watches several cricket matches and videos to get Siddarth up to speed with the latest techniques and trends.”My dad has played a vital role from the moment I touched a cricket bat,” Siddarth says. “Till today, my dad is the only one who knows my cricket inside-out and he’s the first one I go to when I have a problem. Any problem or anything, he’s always been there.””To be honest, I just wanted to enjoy myself while batting”•ACCAfter impressing in the Ranji Trophy, Siddarth was picked in the India Under-19s side for the 50-overs Asia Cup in the UAE. Siddarth had starts in all four innings – 15, 35, 22, 20 – but failed to convert those. After reaching home, he reflected on what went wrong for him.”I had a good Ranji season, but didn’t do well for India Under-19,” Siddarth says. “I had to improve my front-foot play because I was playing too much cricket at the time. I felt my basics were going here and there. So, once I was back in Chennai, I was just working on my basics with my dad. And hopefully, I’m back to my normal mojo now.”Siddarth did get some good news in Dubai in December when CSK picked him for his base price of INR 30 lakh. He was eating a burger at Wendy’s when his friend broke the news to him.”I’m really overwhelmed to be part of CSK because in the first round I wasn’t picked up,” Siddarth says. “I was playing a practice match against Bangladesh, so I didn’t know [about the first round]. Then, when I was eating my friend called and told me CSK picked me. I actually didn’t believe it until I saw all my WhatsApp messages and everything. Then only it hit me. It’s a very good feeling.”

“I had a good Ranji season, but didn’t do well for India Under-19. I had to improve my front-foot play because I was playing too much cricket at the time. I felt my basics were going here and there. So, once I was back in Chennai, I was just working on my basics with my dad.”Siddarth on where he went wrong

While Siddarth is excited to share the dressing room with the likes of MS Dhoni and Ashwin in the IPL, his immediate focus is to keep up his Ranji form and help Tamil Nadu clinch their first title since 1987-88.”Winning the Ranji Trophy is one of the main goals in my career. It was nice to get the IPL call-up, and it’s two months away, but putting on the Tamil Nadu cap for the first time was more special. TN is one of the biggest cricketing states and winning the Ranji Trophy will be the cherry on top.”But we’re just taking it one game at a time. The seniors and the support staff don’t give the pressure to youngsters who are coming in like me. I’ve also resumed my basics after the India Under-19 series in Dubai and we’ve prepared for the next [Ranji] round with a camp in Chennai.”

Brave call to axe David Warner as captain

He has been one of the greats of the IPL, but freeing up his slot could lend greater balance to SRH

Nagraj Gollapudi01-May-2021Did David Warner voluntarily step down as the Sunrisers Hyderabad captain? Or was Warner told he had no choice?ESPNcricinfo understands Warner agreed with the team management it was better he stepped down to allow flexibility in team selection, which could potentially lead the Sunrisers to recover from their joint worst ever start in an IPL season. They are right now last on the points table, with a solitary win in six games.Related

  • Kane Williamson replaces David Warner as Sunrisers Hyderabad captain

Kane Williamson, who will now take charge of the Sunrisers, is understood to have once again readily stepped in for the sake of the team without placing any conditions. The final call to change the captaincy mid-season was taken by the Sunrisers’ team management comprising Tom Moody (team director), Trevor Bayliss (head coach), and the two mentors in VVS Laxman and Muttiah Muralitharan. The Sunrisers have had equally bad starts in terms of number of wins in their first six games twice before, in IPL 2014 and IPL 2015. Incidentally, those have been the only two seasons in which the Sunrisers have failed to make the IPL playoffs.Since then, Warner has steered the franchise to consistent highs, including leading them to their only IPL crown, in 2016. Williamson, however, matched Warner in both leadership and batting prowess when he took over as the captain in IPL 2018 while Warner was serving a ban, and then during the playoffs in IPL 2019 when Warner left early to join the Australian team before the 2019 World Cup.While both men have complemented each other well with Williamson being Warner’s ear piece as far as on-field leadership is concerned, the Australian’s reduced impact as a batter this season, where he has been circumspect, has been a sticking point. This season the Sunrisers chased totals on five occasions in their six matches and lost four times, including in a Super Over against Delhi Capitals.Warner has been Sunrisers’ second-highest run-getter so far this season with 193 runs, including two fifties, but at a weak strike rate of 110.28. In the Sunrisers’ last match – against the Chennai Super Kings – where they batted first for the first time this IPL, Warner struggled to time or place the ball while scoring a 55-ball 57. Meanwhile Williamson, who has played just three matches, has walked in with the pressure of upping the ante to overturn a slow beginning and yet managed 108 runs at a strike rate of 135, without being dismissed yet. Alongside Jonny Bairstow and Rashid Khan, Williamson has made a strong case to be a direct pick in the first XI.

With Warner as captain, that left no room for any further overseas players. However, this season, one of the Sunrisers’ weaknesses has been in their fast bowling department. That is mainly due to losing Bhuvneshwar Kumar to a niggle for the past few matches, and having to do without T Natarajan’s services altogether after the left-arm seamer was ruled out of the tournament due to a knee injury. In the absence of two first-choice pacers, the Sunrisers have had to rely on Khaleel Ahmed, Siddarth Kaul and Sandeep Sharma, none of whom have had any significant success so far.The team’s other weakness has been a lack of batting depth after the top order, with an inexperienced middle order to follow. The Sunrisers have back-ups to fill these gaps on their bench in the form of Jason Holder, Jason Roy and Mohammad Nabi. Roy can link up with Bairstow to replicate their explosive partnership for England, Nabi provides depth and experience with bat and ball especially on slow, spinning surfaces. Holder, who was brought in as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh in IPL 2020 in the UAE, had emerged as an instant match-winner for the Sunrisers. The gap in batting and bowling would point to the Sunrisers needing either of Holder or Nabi in the playing XI, and that is likely to have been put forth to Warner during the meetings he had with the team management. It is likely that Warner was told that his position was not indispensable, despite his great deeds for the franchise in the past. The franchise remains confident Warner still has a big role to play for them, and will be utilised during the season both as a batter and part of the leadership group. “Nobody can write off Warner as he is a great player,” a franchise official said.Despite that, the call the Sunrisers’ team management has taken is a brave one. It is rare that IPL teams displace an overseas captain mid-season, even if the player in question has been struggling individually. Objectively, the Sunrisers’ decision is both bold and logical. Freeing up the slot taken by Warner allows the team better options for team balance.

Before Lucas Paqueta: Nuno must finally cash in on “shocking” West Ham star

The Premier League season is only 15 games old, but it’s already been something of a roller coaster for West Ham United.

For the first couple of months, with Graham Potter in charge, it looked like the East Londoners were destined for relegation and unable to buy a win.

However, over the last few weeks, new boss Nuno Espírito Santo has helped to turn the ship around, and while they’re still in the relegation zone, the Hammers have lost just one of their last six games.

However, there are still problems on and off the pitch, including the fact that they’ll likely have to sell Lucas Paqueta in the summer, but before they do that, West Ham should get rid of someone else in the winter window.

Why West Ham should sell Paqueta

Now, the first thing to say here is that, at his very best, Paqueta has a claim to be one of the most exciting and talented attacking midfielders in the Premier League.

However, the problem is that he hasn’t been at, or really anywhere near, his scintillating best for quite some time.

For example, while he managed a brilliant haul of 15 goal involvements in 23/24, he then followed that up with just five last season, and so far this year, he’s produced just four.

In other words, it’s hard to make a case that his performances over the last year and a half have justified his sizable £150k-per-week wage.

Speaking of his contract, the next reason the Hammers should probably be looking to sell the former Lyon star is the fact that he’ll have just a year left on his deal in the summer.

Therefore, he’ll either need to be handed another bumper contract or be sold to protect his valuation.

Finally, the 28-year-old revealed that he almost forced a move back to Flamengo in the summer. So it’s not impossible to imagine he’ll want to leave sooner or later, which comes back to the idea that the Hammers should be the ones to instigate his departure at the end of the season and protect his value.

With all that said, there is another player, someone far less important to the side, that West Ham should look to move on before Paqeuta.

The West Ham flop Nuno has to sell

With West Ham improving over the last month or so, fewer players are sticking out for the wrong reasons, but one who continues to disappoint is Max Kilman.

Chalkboard

Football FanCast’s Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers star joined the Hammers for a whopping £40m fee in the summer of 2024.

Since then, while there have been the odd moments in which he’s looked like a quality centre-back, the Englishman has largely been a flop and someone who has been more of a hindrance at the back than a help.

For example, in the 2-0 defeat at home to Brentford earlier this season, the 6 foot 4 titan was partly to blame for both goals and looked miles off the pace and, in the words of one content creator, was “shocking.”

Worryingly, his former manager, Gary O’Neil, went into detail about some of his weaknesses and described him as someone who likes to “switch off” during games.

That does not sound like the kind of defender you want in the backline when fighting to stay in the Premier League, and, based on reports, it seems Nuno would agree.

According to a story from earlier this week, the Irons would be willing to part ways with the centre-back should someone make an offer of around £25m, and reports from earlier in the season claimed that Crystal Palace were interested in the defender.

On top of the eye test, another reason the club should perhaps lower their asking price is the fact that his underlying numbers are dire.

According to FBref, the Chelsea-born dud ranks in the bottom 45% of centre-backs in the Premier League for pass completion, the bottom 18% for tackles, the bottom 14% for progressive passes, and the bottom 9% for interceptions, all per 90.

Ultimately, while West Ham will likely need to sell Paqueta in the summer, they must sell Kilman first, as he simply isn’t good enough.

“I can’t really talk for the fans, but…” – Celtic star sends message ahead of cup final

Luke McCowan says Celtic need to show their character in Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup final against St Mirren at Hampden Park.

Wilfried Nancy became the first Hoops manager to lose his opening two matches when Italian giants Roma won 3-0 at Parkhead in the Europa League on Thursday night, which followed on from a 2-1 home defeat to leaders Hearts in the William Hill Premiership last weekend.

Celtic fans, some of whom booed at the end of the defeat by Roma, are approaching the final against the Buddies with more nerves than they would have done before the Frenchman took over from interim bosses Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney, who in turn had taken over from Brendan Rodgers.

McCowan calls for players and fans to stick together

McCowan, the 28-year-old midfielder, who joined from Dundee in August 2024, called for unity and a demonstration of the traits that have made the Parkhead club so successful in recent times.

He said: “I can’t really talk for the fans, but we are fully bought-in. We need to buy-in, it’s kind of non-negotiable.

“We need to back everyone in this building, regardless of who’s been playing well, who’s not.

“We are a team and we need to back each other through the good and the bad because everybody’s all high-fives and cuddles when we are winning but this team doesn’t go through two or three bad results and this is where the true characters are shown.

Worse than Engels: Nancy must drop Celtic flop who looks awful in new role

Wilfried Nancy must drop this Celtic flop who was even worse than Arne Engels in the 3-0 defeat to Roma.

ByDan Emery 3 days ago

“So we need just to be together and I know I’ve said so many times, stick together.

“It’s when you go through bad spells – personally I’ve done it with Dundee and Ayr – then we just need to kind of have that same attitude of work hard, move on to the next game.

“The games are coming thick and fast in this period and it’s a good thing that if you get one win it can propel you to get a few hopefully and we just need to start with that on Sunday.

“We just need to get on top of it again.”

Mariners Prospect Jurrangelo Cijntje, a Switch-Pitcher, Is a Sight to Behold

Switch-hitters are common across baseball, but have you ever seen a switch-pitcher? Well, if not, Seattle Mariners prospect Jurrangelo Cijntje is here to fix that.

The Mariners chose Cijntje with the 15th pick in the 2024 MLB draft. Now, the Mississippi State product is throwing for Seattle at Spring Breakout, a showcase event for the best prospects across MLB farm systems.

Friday night, Cijntje stood atop the mound and threw back-to-back pitches with opposite arms. First, he got Travis Bazzana, the top pick in the 2024 draft, to ground out with a 92-mph heater from his left arm. Then, he switched to the right arm for the next at bat, hurling a 95-mph fastball from the opposite side mere seconds later.

“That's something special,” Bazzana, the top Cleveland Guardians prospect, said of Cijntje via MLB.com. “You don't really see that ever. I think he's got a bright future, and it was cool to battle.”

After the initial out against Bazzana, Cijntje threw right-handed for the rest of his two-inning outing. He even struck out Bazzana with his right arm for the final out of his night.

Pat Venditte, who played in the big leagues from 2015 to '20, is the most recent pitcher to throw with both arms in the MLB. He pitched for six different teams as a reliever, mainly with his right arm against right-handed hitters while switching to the left for left-handed hitters. His unique style prompted a new rule requiring pitchers to indicate the hand he intends to pitch with before an at-bat, known as the "Pat Venditte Rule."

According to MLB.com, the Mariners intend to develop Cijntje as a right-handed starter because it's his better pitching arm with a deeper arsenal where he can reach a higher velocity. But he still has plenty of upside as a lefty, too.

Cijntje, who was born in the Netherlands but primarily grew up in Curaçao, grew up as a switch-pitcher. He pitched from both sides during the 2016 Little League World Series as a member of the team which represented his hometown of Willemstad, Curaçao.

One day, we'll likely see him as one of the rare pitchers who needs to keep the Pat Venditte Rule in mind on the mound.

Aston Villa scouts blown away by hat-trick hero Ismael Saibari

Aston Villa scouts are being put through their paces ahead of the January window and may now have found a player worth pursuing in PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ismael Saibari.

The Villans struggled for goals in the early part of the campaign, and it is fair to say that their efforts to hit the target need to improve, given they are one of the lowest-scoring sides in the Premier League table.

Yet to hit double figures on that front, at the time of writing, much has been made of Ollie Watkins’ poor form at Aston Villa this season. The England international has hit the target in just one of 13 this campaign, failing to repeat the stellar form he showed in 2024/25.

Undoubtedly, January will be a time where finding potency will be prioritised. Hoffenheim striker Fisnik Asllani is on the Villans’ radar and may be pursued, with Unai Emery set on achieving even loftier goals than the accomplishments he has met during his three years in the West Midlands.

He said before the clash with Liverpool: “Still work to do, still objectives to set and work hard to achieve those objectives – collectively and myself as well, individually.

“One of them is some titles, but of course the title only is winning one, Premier League, the cups in England, and Europe, is the target we can set through to achieve some titles, and we are in this way.”

PSR may force Aston Villa’s hand as Liverpool plot a move for Ezri Konsa. Even then, there will be room to recruit more additions to offer Emery a greater sense of potency in his side’s hunt for continental qualification, something he may now find in his latest target.

According to TBR in conversation with Graeme Bailey, Aston Villa scouts were blown away by PSV midfielder Ismael Saibari after watching him in action against Feyenoord last weekend, where he scored a hat-trick.

Bailey said: “Saibari is attracting a lot of attention and his treble last week was special. He is one to keep an eye on for January, getting goals in January is something Premier League clubs especially are looking for and he could offer that.”

With ten goals and an assist to his name this term, the engine room operator is also wanted by Leeds United, West Ham United, Everton, Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Aston Villa eyeing Joshua Zirkzee to fill attacking void

Versatility is a key part of his game, something that could potentially signal several arrivals are imminent, given Saibari can feature as a ten, in central midfield or in a role shielding the back four.

Nevertheless, PSV hold the cards in negotiations due to having the Morocco international under contract until 2029. Aston Villa may need to shell out a premium to land his services, though could now be tempted by the prospect of a January bid.
