Tottenham target Layvin Kurzawa would help take the club to the next level

According to reports in The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to battle Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United for the signature of Paris Saint-Germain left-back Layvin Kurzawa this summer.

What’s the word, then?

Well, The Mirror says that Spurs are keen to strengthen in that position as they are prepared to sell Danny Rose this summer, meaning they would require further competition for Ben Davies, whom Tottenham fans have criticised on Twitter in recent weeks.

The Mirror says that Kurzawa will be available at the end of the season as PSG are looking to sell players before they bring in new ones, with French media outlet RMC Sport reporting on April 11 that the Ligue 1 giants would want a minimum of €25m (£21.8m) for the 25-year-old.

How has Kurzawa done this season?

Despite the fact that PSG are willing to move him on during the summer, the France international has still been something of a regular for them so far this term, making 26 appearances in all competitions.

Even though he has featured as a left-back, he has scored an impressive five goals – including a hat-trick in the 5-0 win against Anderlecht in the Champions League – while he has also provided a further four assists.

According to WhoScored.com, two of his key strengths are his passing and his dribbling ability, and as well as having an overall passing accuracy of 87% in 24 outings in Ligue 1 and in Europe during the current campaign, he has also made 13 key passes and successfully completed 18 of the 30 dribbles he has attempted.

Would he be a good signing for Tottenham?

He certainly would be.

If Spurs are letting Rose go this summer then manager Mauricio Pochettino will want to bring in a top-class replacement that can be a regular starter ahead of Davies, and Kurzawa certainly fits the bill and is someone that can help them reach the next level.

With plenty of experience of playing at the very top with Monaco and PSG and with the ability to make a huge impact in the final third as well as defensively, he is the archetypal modern-day full-back and has all of the ingredients needed to be a success with the north London outfit.

Can they win the race?

Considering Chelsea have Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri already it is difficult to see them signing Kurzawa too, while United could focus on Rose or Juventus’ Alex Sandro instead, leaving Tottenham in pole position to potentially sign the France international in what would be a bargain deal in the current era.

Frank Fabra could be a new long-term option at left-back for Everton

As reported by The Sun, Everton have sent scouts to South America to track the progress of Boca Juniors defender Frank Fabra.

What’s the story?

After another disappointing season in the English Premier League, the Toffees badly need to sign quality players in the summer transfer window, as they look to build a squad that can compete with the country’s top six teams.

One player on their radar is Colombian international Frank Fabra, according to The Sun.

The paper say Everton scout Martyn Glover was in Argentina last week to scout the defender playing for Boca Juniors.

The report goes on to state he would be available to the Toffees for around £7.5m.

Who is he?

Fabra has made over 50 appearances for Argentinian icons Boca Juniors since joining in 2016, scoring five goals and assisting eight times from left-back in that time.

With 17 caps for Colombia too, he’s on his way to the World Cup this summer where his value could increase if he has an impressive tournament.

Signing players from South America is always exciting and the fact he is a left-back who likes to dribble, has pace and loves to get forward would add extra intrigue if he ends up at Goodison Park.

Can Everton go outside of their regular transfer wheelhouse to land the 27-year-old?

Leeds United fans react to rumour Luke Ayling is fighting for his future

According to a report by Football Insider on April 16, popular Leeds United defender Luke Ayling is one of 13 senior players fighting for their futures at the club following another disappointing campaign, and Whites fans have been having their say on the rumour about the right-back.

The 26-year-old has been one of his side’s most consistent performers over the course of the last few seasons – even being a stand-in captain on occasions – and he was one of their better players in an up-and-down start to the Championship campaign.

The Yorkshire outfit have slipped away over the course of the last six months with just two wins in their previous 19 league games, and Ayling has missed the majority of that run after picking up a season-ending ankle injury on New Year’s Day – the Elland Road faithful were furious on Twitter after his replacement Gaetano Berardi picked up a five-match ban earlier this month.

Leeds supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the story that the club could cash in on the defender this summer, and while one described him as the “best player at the club”, another said “if they sell Ayling, I honestly give up”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

West Ham fans beg for Butland… but not his teammate

West Ham fans are already eyeing up potential summer transfer targets, and they’re all saying the same thing about one Stoke City duo.

It’s no secret that West Ham fans are desperate for a new goalkeeper this summer, and they couldn’t believe their luck when links to Portugal’s Rui Patricio surfaced last week.

Joe Hart has been far from impressive since joining the Hammers, making several major mistakes on his loan spell in London.

Adrian hasn’t exactly set the world alight either, meaning the Hammers will almost certainly look to add a new goalkeeper this summer.

With Stoke City relegated on Saturday, fans are eying up a move for England goalkeeper Jack Butland, but they don’t want Xherdan Shaqiri to come with him.

The Hammers have been strongly linked with the Stoke City pair, and Shaqiri showed his class with a wonderful free kick goal on Saturday, although it wasn’t enough to keep the Potters up.

Fans are all saying the same thing about the Swiss winger though, that his occasional incredible performance doesn’t matter when he’s nowhere to be found nine games out of ten.

The Hammers crowd all seem much happier with a move for Butland though, who could be the man to rescue their goalkeeping disaster.

Alex Iwobi shows he still has an Arsenal future with positive performance vs Burnley

As Per Mertesacker and Arsene Wenger bid their farewells to the Emirates Stadium crowd on Sunday, many players will have wondered whether they’ll be wrapped up in the changes at Arsenal this summer.

While many of the problems at the club have been attributed to their 22-year serving manager, it’s clear the personnel of the squad needs a revamp too; some players just haven’t produced their best form for the Gunners, and some youngsters haven’t developed as expected either.

Alex Iwobi belongs in the latter category, especially at the end of the season in which his performances have often drawn criticism from the Arsenal faithful – not to mention that late-night party before the shock 4-2 FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest. He’s also developed a reputation for being something of a Wenger favourite and while that shouldn’t affect the opinions of Arsenal’s next manager, it’s only added to the narrative that he should follow the Frenchman out of the exit door.

But on Sunday, as Arsenal demolished Burnley 5-0, the Nigerian international provided a crucially timely reminder of his enormous potential and how he could in fact prove to be an important player in Arsenal’s new era, particularly if he’s utilised in more central roles rather than out wide – where the 22-year-old has shown a worrying lack of pace at times.

Part of a three-man midfield alongside Jack Wilshere and Granit Xhaka, Iwobi was a real lynchpin for the Gunners on Sunday, completing the most passes of any player on the pitch. That influence really told in the 64th minute when Iwobi converted one of many flowing Arsenal attacks with a rifled finish beyond Nick Pope, and in addition to the superb strike the young midfielder weighed in with two created chances, two successful dribbles and a further two efforts at goal.

Now at the end of his third season of making more than 20 appearances for the Arsenal first team, there’s no doubt Iwobi should be showing greater improvements right now considering the pedigree he clearly possesses.

But he’s hardly the only young player who has struggled to develop during the final few years of Wenger’s reign, and Arsenal’s next manager may prove far more effective in turning his obvious potential into ability.

Does Iwobi – who Transfermarkt value at £9million – have a future in north London, Arsenal fans? Let us know by voting below…

Man United face competition for Bonucci

According to The Sun, Manchester United will face competition from Bayern Munich for AC Milan centre-back Leonardo Bonucci in this summer’s transfer window.

What’s the story?

Milan’s failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League means that the Italian giants are under pressure to sell some of their biggest stars this summer in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Bonucci only joined Milan from Juventus last summer, but according to a number of reports in Italy, the 31-year-old will leave the San Siro ahead of the 2018-19 season.

United boss Jose Mourinho is believed to have a strong interest in the defender, but according to The Sun, German giants Bayern will fight the Red Devils for the Italian international.

Chelsea also have a long-standing interest in Bonucci, although it is understood that their failure to make next season’s Champions League has ruled the Blues out of the running – leaving United and Bayern to battle for his signature.

Would Bonucci be a good signing for United?

United are expected to sign at least one new centre-back in this summer’s transfer window, and they have been strongly linked with Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld.

Bonucci was outstanding for Juventus between 2010 and 2017, but it would be fair to say that the centre-back did not enjoy his best season at Milan.

There is absolutely no doubting his quality, however, and the 77-time Italy international would have no problems settling into life in the Premier League.

Mourinho wants players with experience of winning major titles, and Bonucci certainly falls into that category having lifted the Serie A title on seven separate occasions during a wonderful career.

According to transfermarkt.co.uk, Bonucci is valued at £31.5m, and it would be an absolute no-brainer for the 20-time English champions to move for the world-class centre-back if given the chance this summer.

Ousmane Dembele can bring new life to Arsenal’s attack

As reported by The Daily Mail, one of new Arsenal manager Unai Emery’s transfer targets this summer is Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele.

What’s the story?

It’s expected to be an exciting summer for Arsenal supporters, finally embarking on a new managerial era after seasons of failure.

They’ll be eager to see who the new boss can bring into the club to freshen up the starting eleven, with the Gunners expected to be busy in the transfer market.

One player that could be arriving at the Emirates is Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, according to The Daily Mail.

He’s on the list of the paper’s Arsenal targets, believing he could move to London on a season-long loan, with Barcelona ruling out a sale.

Rated at £72m by Transfermarkt, is this a deal the Gunners should be pursuing?

[ad_pod ]

What can he offer?

Dembele has impressive experience for his young age, having already made over 100 professional appearances in three of Europe’s top five leagues at the age of just 21.

Bursting onto the scene at Stade Rennais in 2015/16, he scored 12 times and assisted five more in Ligue 1, attracting the attention of Borussia Dortmund. At the Germans he progressed further in a tougher division, scoring 10 goals and assisting 21 times in all competitions.

Barcelona then came calling but he has yet to full establish himself in the first team at the Nou Camp and a season’s loan at Arsenal could be just what he needs to convince the club he can be a big dog there.

With creativity, pace, an eye for goal, excellent dribbling ability and great vision, he is every bit the modern elite wide forward and could revitalise Arsenal’s right flank next season.

Even on a temporary basis, the Gunners should be doing all they can to bring him to the Emirates.

Manchester United fans would love to sign Sessegnon after play-off performance

Manchester United fans are eager to sign Fulham star Ryan Sessegnon after the teenager inspired his side to a win in the English Championship play-off final.

He assisted the only goal of the game with a delightful through ball that required an composure not usually seen in players so young, especially on such a grand stage.

With 16 goals and eight assists, the 18-year-old has had a stunning season in the second-tier, grabbing enough attention that a move to one of the biggest sides in the country now seems likely.

Red Devils supporters would love that destination to be Old Trafford, believing he has the raw talent to make himself a success in Jose Mourinho’s first team squad.

Others would love to sign him up then loan him back to Fulham to continue his development in familiar surroundings.

Fans took to Twitter to discuss a potential move after his Saturday performance…

Hamsik would be great replacement if Dele Alli was to leave Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur should consider making a move for Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik if Dele Alli ends up leaving the club.

What’s the word?

There are no concrete suggestions that Alli is edging towards the exit door this summer, but a recent interview may have caused concern for some fans.

While speaking to ES Magazine, the England international said “never say never” when asked about potentially playing for another club.

Alli has gone from strength to strength since moving to the North London club from MK Dons in 2016.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”252976″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch 21 things that will definitely happen at the World Cup”]

Despite being just 22 years of age, the midfielder is a regular first-team member in Mauricio Pochettino’s team, as well as a fully fledged England international.

While having a player of Alli’s quality within the ranks is hugely beneficial for Tottenham, there is also a risk that he will get his head turned one day.

If so, who should Spurs swoop for?

There are numerous top-class talents that could potentially fill Alli’s role at Tottenham, and one of those is Hamsik, who is valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt.

The Slovakian international has more experience than the current Spurs star and he has enjoyed more success having won three cups with Napoli.

The 30-year-old has the qualities that would fit into Pochettino’s system, and he is known for being able to pick out a pass – something that Alli has not yet perfected.

Last season, Hamsik made 49 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and creating three assists for the Italian outfit.

In a perfect world, Alli would stay put and Tottenham would not even need to consider alternatives, but if for some reason, the young star opted to leave this summer, Hamsik should certainly be under consideration.

Newcastle fans react to brutal opening fixtures

Newcastle fans have been reacting to the Premier League fixtures announcement, and the Magpies’ brutal start to the season is the only thing on fans’ minds.

The Premier League officially released the fixtures for 2018-19 on Thursday, and Newcastle will open the season with a home match against Tottenham.

Spurs of course were the victim of a brutal beating when they travelled to St. James’ on the final day of the 2016-17 season, as a brace from Georginio Wijnaldum helped the Magpies to a 5-1 win.

Rafael Benitez’s men face a daunting start to the season, as the clash with Tottenham is followed by an away trip to newly promoted Cardiff.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”255909″ player=”12034″ title=”3 Reasons We Love To Hate… Germany”]

The trip to Cardiff is the most winnable fixture in the Magpies’ first five matches, as they then face Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal in consecutive games.

Playing four of last season’s top six within the opening five matches is certainly difficult, but fans can take solace in the fact that three of those four big clashes are at home.

St. James’ has seen some pretty big results over the “big six” in recent years, and both Arsenal and Chelsea fell on Tyneside towards the end of last season.
