Newcastle plotting Roger Fernandes bid

An update has emerged on Newcastle and their pursuit of Braga’s Roger Fernandes in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

According to A Bola, via Sport Witness, the Magpies are preparing to table a bid for the young winger that could reach €25m (£21m) if all add-ons are met.

The report claims that the Portuguese side have already turned down offers from other clubs and it remains to be seen if they will be tempted by this latest attempt.

It is claimed that the player is unlikely to be able to move to St. James’ Park until he is 18 and this means that Dan Ashworth could complete a deal before loaning him back to his current team for another two years.

Luiz Diaz 2.0

By signing Fernandes from Braga this summer, even if it means waiting two years to see him in England, Newcastle can land the next Luiz Diaz to grace the Premier League.

Liverpool snapped up the Colombian winger from Porto in January and he hit the ground running in the top-flight as he caught the eye alongside the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota. In 13 league outings, he averaged a sublime SofaScore rating of 7.23 as he registered four goals and three assists from out wide.

The attacker adapted to the division with ease and made an instant impact for Jurgen Klopp as he proved his worth in the final third.

Fernandes can now follow in his footsteps in terms of being a winger from the Portuguese league who comes to the Premier League and showcases his quality at the top end of the pitch.

The 16-year-old has shown immense potential by breaking into the Braga first team at such a young age. He made seven top-flight appearances in 2021/22 and found the back of the net twice, despite averaging 18 minutes per game.

Now, imagine the numbers he could produce with another two years of experience playing professional football…

The teenage sensation has the scope to develop into a top player, given his performances at the age of 16, and Newcastle must secure this deal so that they can benefit from his talents in the future.

If he is able to fulfil his potential in the next couple of years and arrive in England ready to make his mark on the Premier League then he will be the next Diaz to grace the top flight.

Everton eye Chelsea striker Broja

Everton are reportedly now eyeing up a move to sign Armando Broja after a deal for James Tarkowski is wrapped up.

The Lowdown: Tarkowski medical

The Athletic have reported that Tarkowski is having a medical at Goodison Park ahead of a free transfer from Burnley.

He is expected to sign once his contract expires at Turf Moor and become Frank Lampard’s first summer signing, then the Merseyside club can concentrate on other business as the window progresses.

The Latest: Broja eyed

As per The Daily Mail, Lampard’s and Co are now eyeing a move for Broja, after he returned to Chelsea from his loan spell at Southampton last season.

However, they will face competition from West Ham United, Newcastle United, Napoli and Inter Milan, and he could cost in the region of £25m.

The Verdict: Sign

Broja has proven that he can handle the Premier League, with six goals and one assist last season (Transfermarkt) despite being just 20 years of age in a struggling Saints side.

Hailed as ‘dangerous‘ by Ralph Hasenhuttl, and a player with ‘incredible pace and strength‘ by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, the six-foot-three colossus certainly has all of the attributes to thrive in the top flight, and the Toffees can provide him with that platform.

Nonetheless, with the fierce competition for his signature, the Blues would do well to snap him up.

Liverpool: Pundit slams Mane decision

Speaking live on talkSPORT, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has delivered a scathing assessment involving Liverpool and the likely departure of Sadio Mane.

The lowdown: Move pending

Having initially remained quiet on where his future may lie after the season, it has since become apparent that the 30-year-old Senegalese star will leave Anfield in the summer.

Mane will end a six-year affinity with the Reds as both Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain eye up a move in the upcoming transfer window.

Leaving with a little over 12 months remaining on a deal at Anfield (Transfermarkt), one pundit has slammed the club for allowing the winger to leave at this stage.

The latest: ‘Ridiculous’

Discussing the future of Mane and Mohamed Salah live on air (Thursday, June 2 9.35am), Agbonlahor was critical of the Reds’ owners for not giving the attacker what he wants.

The 35-year-old said: “Liverpool allowing Mane to go, next season will cost them the title. Haaland is signing for Manchester City, they are becoming stronger.

“You’re going to let Mane leave, you’ve got Diaz and Jota, but they’re not going to get Mane’s numbers, he’s a goalscorer. The threat he gives Liverpool going in behind, making unselfish runs. Salah, they can’t lose, Mane they can’t lose.

“Yes, Liverpool have always had good recruitment, bringing in players. But the numbers that Mane gets, the threat he gives opposition defenders, helps free up space for Salah. For me first of all, Mane leaving is ridiculous. I don’t blame both of them, Mane and Salah the numbers they are getting year in year out – they want paying what they deserve.”

The verdict: Ruthless operators

Albeit there has been no indication the decision is solely down to finances, ultimately, the chances of Liverpool ownership group FSG being held to ransom or indeed succumbing to pressure and paying what they perceive to be over the odds was little to none.

So far, during their 12-year tenure at Anfield, the American owners have proven to be frugal operators when it comes to contracts, transfer business and decision making generally.

Whilst simply paying whatever the likes of Mane and Salah ask for is simple in principle, with it comes demands from elsewhere within the ranks and therefore the risk of upsetting a previously harmonious dressing room.

Despite proving to remain a player at the very top of his game in a 23 goal 2021/22 campaign, at 30, Mane – dubbed a ‘wild animal’ by Pierre Emerick Aubameyang – was never likely to be offered a lucrative new deal given the club’s Modus Operandi of signing young talent and a move this summer whilst the club can likely make a profit on their £34million expenditure would be best for all parties.

Rangers reject bid for Ianis Hagi

Rangers have rejected a bid from Galatasaray for Ibrox starlet Ianis Hagi, reports Sport.ro (via Rangers News).

The Lowdown: January interest

According to Sport.ro, the Turkish giants previously had a bid dismissed by the Gers for the 23-year-old ahead of the January window late last year. Jose Mourinho was also reportedly interested in bringing the Romania international to Roma.

However, a knee injury towards the end of the winter window sidelined Hagi for the remainder of the season, rendering him out of action for Rangers’ sensational Europa League campaign.

Former manager Steven Gerrard had hailed the midfielder for a “brilliant” performance in Rangers’ 1-0 win in the Europa League play-offs ahead of the season, so the player’s absence was as a huge blow for the Glasgow side.

The Latest: New bid, GvB wants to keep him

According to a fresh report by Sport.ro relayed by Rangers News, Galatasaray are not giving up their long-term interest in Hagi, and it is reported that the Turkish outfit have had a £6m bid rejected by the Blues for the player.

It is claimed that Gers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst views the midfielder as an important player for his side next season.

The Verdict: Could be further interest?

With the report also suggesting that Roma were keen to make a move for the 23-year-old before he sustained his serious knee injury, it would not be surprising to see the UEFA Conference League winners come back in for the Rangers man, given that he will be back playing soon.

Furthermore, with Hagi being a Galatasaray fan, this could complicate the situation. He was also born in Istanbul and his father even played for the giant club.

Therefore, we feel further interest in Hagi could yet lead to a transfer away from the Glasgow club this summer despite GvB’s desire for him to stay.

Leeds ‘most interested’ in Tyler Adams

Leeds United are one of the clubs ‘most interested’ in signing RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams this summer.

The Lowdown: Adams profiled

Adams, who Jesse Marsch hailed as ‘special talent’, is primarily a defensive midfielder who can also play on the right-hand side.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-44/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The 23-year-old has worked under Marsch at New York Red Bulls and Leipzig, making 71 appearances under the Leeds boss, contributing to ten goals in the process.

Adams, a USA international, is valued at £15.3m by Transfermarkt and is under contract until 2025, but it looks as if a move to Elland Road for a third spell under Marsch could now be on the cards.

The Latest: Leeds keen

MLS Transfers posted an update regarding Adams on Twitter over the weekend, stating that the midfielder ‘is ready to leave the Bundesliga’.

Leipzig want a ‘big transfer fee’, with Leeds and Benfica ‘currently the most interested’ in Adams, who has a €40m (£34m) release clause.

The Verdict: Phillips partner?

Leeds appear to be on the hunt for another defensive midfielder ahead of Marsch’s first full season, even if Kalvin Phillips remains at the club.

Phillips has been heavily linked with an exit, but should he pen new terms with his boyhood club, the Whites may still need reinforcements, especially if Marsch looks to implement a narrow 4-2-2-2 system.

Midfield options are extremely limited at this moment in time, so bringing in Adams, who already has experience at the highest level, could be a smart piece of business both in the short and long run as Marsch knows how to get the best out of him.

Man Utd: Journalist drops Ndicka claim

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka, according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins.

The lowdown: Rising star

A product of the Auxerre academy, the Paris-born youngster joined the Europa League winners in 2018 and has rapidly developed a burgeoning reputation in the Bundesliga.

Since arriving in Germany, the 22-year-old has made 139 appearances for Frankfurt, directly contributing to an impressive 19 goals from a predominantly central defensive role.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-man-utd-news-2/” title=”Latest Man Utd news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Fast approaching the final year of his contract (Transfermarkt), it appears inevitable that the next step in a blossoming career is on the horizon…

The latest: United cited

Taking to Twitter, French journalist Hawkins confirmed interest from the Red Devils, AS Monaco and Tottenham in acquiring the services of Ndicka.

He stated: “Evan Ndicka is very courted. Tottenham and Man Utd are tracking the Frankfurt defender, recent Europa League winner. In Monaco, his name comes up insistently if Benoît Badiashile is transferred. Ndicka does not rule out playing UCL with Frankfurt next season.”

The verdict: Exciting prospect

Signing the 6 foot 3 20-times capped France youth international would be a hugely promising statement as Erik ten Hag begins his tenure at Old Trafford by attempting to freshen up the squad.

Described as the ‘complete package’ by German reporter Christopher Michel, this is a move that would make an abundance of sense, particularly as Eric Bailly has been linked with a departure in recent days.

So far this season, Ndicka has scored four times and provided another four assists in 44 appearances across all competitions and played 100 minutes in the European final success over Rangers to earn a 6.90 Sofascore rating for a monstrous performance containing a massive seven clearances and seven successful aerial duels.

Partnering a talent of this magnitude alongside either Harry Maguire or compatriot Raphael Varane would be a tantalising prospect that Ten Hag and John Murtough should be doing everything possible to make a reality.

Southampton: Source shares Bright Osayi-Samuel update

An ‘industry source’ has now shared a major Southampton transfer update involving Fenerbahce forward Bright Osayi-Samuel.

The Lowdown: Semmens eyeing moves…

The Saints and their transfer chief Martin Semmens have allegedly been planning some Premier League moves behind the scenes with the 2022 summer window now edging very close.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/southampton-newest-updates/” title=”Southampton newest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

It has been reported that bolstering the attacking areas could become a real priority at St Mary’s, as links emerge to the likes of Manchester City striker Liam Delap.

This comes as Ralph Hasenhuttl seems unlikely to seal Chelsea loanee Armando Broja on a permanent basis but, according to reports, a forward isn’t the only position that Southampton could strengthen.

The Latest: Saints eye Osayi-Samuel swoop…

As per Football Insider’s ‘industry source’, Southampton – and by extension Semmens – are now ‘plotting’ a move to sign Osayi-Samuel this summer, weighing up a summer bid for the former QPR ace.

This comes as the club ‘highly regard’ and admire the versatile 24-year-old, having been blown away by his form in Turkey.

However, they face real competition for his signature, with both West Ham and Brentford also in contention.

The Verdict: Get it done?

Adept at playing both as a winger and right wing-back, Osayi-Samuel has really impressed in the Turkish Super League.

Hailed as ‘quality’ by Kevin Phillips, the former Championship star has averaged more successful take-ons per 90 in Fenerbache’s squad than anyone else (2.3), which shows why his former manager Mark Warburton said he is a ‘real handful’ who ‘terrifies defenders’.

He also ranks in their top six league performers by average match rating and has played the second-most minutes domestically, proving what a brilliant asset he is (WhoScored).

Depending on the price tag, Semmens must surely consider advancing with the move.

Tottenham Hotspur: Haysman to depart at the end of the season

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Khalon Haysman will reportedly leave the club at the end of the season, according to a report published by Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Scholarship prospect

The midfielder first joined the Lilywhites’ U18s squad back in 2020 after signing a two-year scholarship deal, and following a successful spell, was hoping that he would be able to agree a professional contract with the Premier League giants once the training programme ends next month.

However, it seems like Fabio Paratici and co are currently in the process of letting the club’s second-year scholars know whether they are being released or kept, and it doesn’t appear to be good news for the 18-year-old starlet.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Haysman set to depart

In a new article by Football Insider, a Spurs source has told the site that Haysman has been made aware that he will be one of the players departing north London when his contract ends on June 30th.

After Paratici’s decision, the talented prospect will now be on the hunt for a new club.

The Verdict: One for the future

The maestro would have gained plenty of experience at Spurs, not just from the scholarship, but from his time in the academy side, where he has made 17 appearances across the U18s Premier League and also the FA Youth Cup this season, finding the back of the net twice, as per Transfermarkt.

Even though this news will come as a huge blow to Haysman, he has the ability to switch roles from a defensive midfielder to playing on the left-hand side in the middle of the park.

This type of versatility is rare and a very attractive trait for someone still at such a young age, so there’s no doubt that his future potential suitor is out there, but for now, it looks like he will be starting the next chapter of his career away from N17.

In other news… a Sky Sports pundit has dropped a huge Tottenham managerial claim.

Rangers to offer McGregor new deal

Paddy Kenny has been left blown away by some contract news that he has now heard from Glasgow Rangers sources.

The Lowdown: McGregor talks

As per Football Insider, the Teddy Bears are now in advanced talks with Allan McGregor over a new deal.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/rangers-news-4/” title=”Rangers news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Sources from Ibrox have revealed that the club are now close to agreeing an extension with the goalkeeper, whose current contract is set to expire in the summer.

The Latest: Kenny reacts

Speaking to Football Insider, fellow former Premier League goalkeeper Kenny has now given his reaction to that news, with the 43-year-old blown away and claiming it’s ‘perfect for everyone’:

“Age is just a number.

“If he is still doing a job, give him a deal. That’s perfect for everyone. He is proving every week that he has still got it.

“He’s nearly the same age as me and I can’t get out of bed some mornings. I know he will be looked after a lot better but still, it’s incredible.

“He’s not making mistakes and he’s coming up trumps when Rangers need him to. He’s a big reason for them getting to the Europa League final in my opinion.

“He’s a legend at that club and he can probably stay as long as he wants to at this point.”

The Verdict: Deserved

If McGregor feels that he can carry on playing at the highest level at 40 years of age, then a new deal would be richly deserved.

He has managed to keep 16 clean sheets in total so far this season, including three in the UEFA Europa League, helping them miraculously reach the final against Frankfurt (Transfermarkt).

In their European journey, he has saved a penalty, made no errors leading to goals and averaged 2.8 saves per game (SofaScore), playing a big part as to why the Light Blues have managed to get so far.

Nonetheless, McGregor is showing no signs of slowing down just yet, and so the Gers need to tie him down at the risk of losing him on a free this summer.

Newcastle eye Everton striker Richarlison

The representatives of Richarlison are reportedly now talking to Newcastle United, among other clubs, over a potential move in the summer from Everton.

The Lowdown: Controversy

For all of his brilliance at times, Richarlison does also come with controversy, having recently thrown a lit flare during the Goodison Park faithful’s 1-0 win over Chelsea at the weekend, for which he is now being investigated.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-5/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

He has also been criticised for having problems with his attitude this season, and with the situation that the Merseyside club find themselves in the Premier League, it would not be a surprise if they decided to part ways this summer, banking a big sum to reinvest into other areas of the squad.

The Latest: Newcastle talks

Writing in his latest piece for Newcastle World, reliable journalist Liam Kennedy has reported that Richarlison’s representatives are already now speaking to the Magpies, as well as a number of other teams in the top flight, about a potential move for the Brazil international this summer.

However, the Toffees are set to ask for a fee of around £50m in order to let him go, but he is keen to leave regardless of whether they stay up or not.

The Verdict: Sell

Richarlison has hit a purple patch lately, with four goals and one assist in his last six games in the Premier League, including the winner against Chelsea last time out (Transfermarkt), but £50m is just too much to turn down for a player that also comes with some baggage, and has not always been as consistent this season.

Of course, they may have no choice if they go down, but even if they stay up, the Blues could then use that money to reinvest in other key areas of the squad, in order to kick on again under Frank Lampard next term.

Nonetheless, they still have Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who can be the focal point of their attack should Richarlison be sold, providing the England international can use the summer to finally get fully fit.
